Tuesday Night Tunes – 12 string
I am fascinated by 12 string guitars. Found this one with Stevie Ray Vaughan and had to share. Check it out.
I always think of these kings of guitar as being confident and secure in their ability. I found one where that might not have been the case. Check out Jimi Hendrix on a 12 string and he even says he was “scared to death”
Are you confident in what you can do?
Do you doubt that Jimi Hendrix could play? Yeah, me neither.
Imagine being that good and having doubts. Your doubts and my doubts can derail us from our best work. I think the best thing to do in that case is to just do it and fail if necessary but don’t stop with the failure. In fact, don’t stop.
Babe Ruth said “you just can’t beat the person who never gives up”.
That’s truth right there.
In the book Resilience, Eric Greitens makes a case that we do something backwards. We rely on our feelings to tell us how we should act. We get up in the morning and feel discouraged or down and that colors our whole experience that day. It feels gray, dark and ends up not productive. He says we ask ourselves questions like why. Why do I feel this way? What can I do to fix how I feel?
He continues with “The question we almost never ask, however, is the only one that really matters: How: “How do you do that? How do you make yourself depressed every morning?”
If we know who we are and act accordingly it will change our feelings. Confidence comes from actions. Think about Jimi. At about the 1 minute mark he said he was ‘scared to death’. Then he started. He acted. Confidence comes as we act and succeed. Failure is possible but it’s temporary. Start again until you get it right then practice until you can’t get it wrong.
I hope you have a great week planned. I do, with a trip to San Diego for a conference. I get to hear Andy Andrews, Dr. Henry Cloud and I suspect a few surprises. I’ll come back fired up and ready to hit the ground running. That’s how it works for me. Unplugging for a few days and focusing on growth. Growth inside instead of outside.
Let me leave you with something that might help you too. A bit of encouragement to get up positive and get your best work done.
Here is it.
Rise and Shine!
Thanks for listening,
