Give us this day our daily …

“Give us this day our daily words” was the thought I had as I was debating the need to get out of bed. I listened to Matt Clarke yesterday as he was talking to Andy Andrews on The Professional Noticer Podcast, and it prompted me to return to writing more often. I used to write about daily but have gotten out of the habit.
I lay in bed contemplating the morning and what I need to get done before I commit to getting up. It allows me time to consider what’s important to get done during the day. It takes me about 10 minutes or so to complete this, and I find it valuable. Today I was reflecting on what I heard in the podcast. If you want to hear it too, go to https://andyandrews.com/matt-clarke-leadership-faith/.
My schedule is very different from Susan’s. That’s my wife, and we’ve been together since 1980. She is an early riser, and I am not. I’m a night owl. It’s caused some friction in our relationship occasionally, but now it’s just a preference. I get up about 8 hours after I go to sleep. I can go to bed earlier, but I prefer to stay up for a while. One of my business partners used to say, “I won’t have a meeting with you until after 10am. You’re not fit for human companionship until after 10.” He was right.
As I thought about what I’d heard in that podcast, the idea of a muse came to mind. Steven Pressfield has an interesting take on where ideas come from. He says that it is a muse who sees you working and struggling in the task of anything valuable, and she bestows an idea on you. Personally, I think it’s God or one of His angels, but the idea is the same. It comes from somewhere outside us, and we are rewarded because we were ‘caught’ working.
I will get ‘caught’ working more often, and I’ve asked God “to give me my daily words”. We’ll see where it goes.
It’s a good life!
